It’s the combination of the two players being headless chickens when alongside each other and the opposition having a player that goes for the jugular on this factor……Arthur is the one that cannot be playing as he even made Oggy struggle at times…..

12 more points, I believe and Sullivan can put his cheque book away as survival will be all but ensured

Last season after 19 games, the bottom two had 11 and 5 points, 18th placed 12 points after 18 games. This year 10 and 11, for 19th and 20th placed (19 games).18th 12 points from 16, 17th, 13 point from 18 games.

Last season, the bottom 3 all relegated with under 30 points (28 points for 18th) points.

Can see that happening again.

I think the cheque book, is safely locked away.

It wasn't Arthur that didn't think to mark Eduardo for his goal and then gave away s cheap free kick by diving in for their second.

I'm not endorsing Masuaku here as he's worse than Walford as a left back however Diop is a liability as a centre back

Re: ⚽ Crystal Palace v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Just another in a long line of pretty poor performances, and once again you have Moyes at the end of the game telling everyone we didn't play well, as he does almost every week. Fuck knows how we won, and highly doubt we would have had they had their best two players playing. They were at us from the off and barely relented. The second half we were abysmal. Moyes seems to lack a plan B? Sticking Noble on made no difference.

I think what we need, apart from the very obvious striker and LB, is a real class act in midfield, Benny and Fornals are okay, but we need better. Maybe another like Bowen. Someone rapid, or someone who can look up and play a split through ball behind the back line. Maybe Lingard is that man still?

Still, a wins a win as they say, and now have winnable games coming up, could be on 40 point by mid-Jan if we beat Naarwich and Leeds at home.

As for Diop, I find it hard to believe that Eddie Howe would want him, but fingers crossed. Obviously we would then need another CB in, hopefully Tarkowski, but that looks tricky for a few reasons.

Arthur did ok with a tiring Ayew, but was ripped a new one by the kid brought on……if that kid came on at halftime we would have lost such was the mauling. Diop is shit at improvising and clearly Arthur turns him into a mess because it’s clear Arthur can get done…..first role of a fullback is to not make your centre half feel exposed so they have come across this makes for bad decision making.

Re: ⚽ Crystal Palace v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-3
I'm probably only echoing what everyone else thought, but I thought we were poor yesterday, apart from a golden 5 minutes when we went 0-2 up.

Palace had the upper hand through the rest of the match, IMO. They started how they carried on, playing balls up to the final third unchallenged, plenty of movement, hit the post and later the bar — we looked like training cones we were so static. The second half was even worse from us, I can't remember us having a single convincing attack or effort on goal, in the whole half. Ayew had the freedom of the park throughout the game, even when he switched wings later.

The midfield block and the central defenders just didn't work. Moyes didn't attempt to change anything in the middle to try to improve things, which seemed a bit strange. Maybe because we were 0-3 up?

Anyway, both our choices at left back were horribly exposed by Ayew. Dawson and Diop just about get away with it most matches but they are so average compared to the standard we need. I also thought Fabianski was a little at fault for both goals, and it's sod's law that having got a decent keeper in as back up, Fabianski has been playing well and stayed injury free, but I'd have liked to see Areola have a run of games because I think he's better.

Cresswell and Zouma we need back urgently. We need to unload Arthur and buy someone as good as Cresswell, if not better, this month. We've needed to do that for a few windows, but like the striker position that we haven't filled, we've been riding our luck, which is obviously running out.

WTF did we see in Alves, what a waste. Clearly we now need another Centre back, probably a left footed player who can start matches immediately, not someone who might be OK in 2 years time.

Up front, Benrahma is off to the AFCON and it looks like Vlasic and Fornals will be playing more. Lingard would be welcome if he manages to score goals like last time, which is unlikely but I'd still love to see him return, and we need the striker we've all been crying out for during the last few windows since we sold Haller. Or possibly even when we had him.

Fudge this window, and we could be saying goodbye to Rice. Obviously we will be getting silly money for him so it wouldn't necessarily be the end of the world, but it would be the end of watching someone world class playing for us, for the time being.

That's what I said at full time, Sold0.

3-0 without him, 0-2 with him.

I just hope Moyes is using him for the shop window, but I have a horrible reason he isn't.

Signing a left back and striker to compete with what we have had been a priority for so long now.

Re: ⚽ Crystal Palace v West Ham - Official Match Thread
The goals were both down to Diop.

I also think Masuaku is a poor defender, but he was better defensively than Johnson yesterday, that's the truth of it. Ironically, Johnson was a lot better going forward.

Brilliant that Lanzini has found his form again, technically he's our best player, and we've looked much better with him in the side than Fornals.

Re: ⚽ Crystal Palace v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-3
Masuaku did a decent job on ayew because he got a lot closer than Johnson did.
The young kid was far too clever for masuaku and it seems when masuaku plays diop gets even worse.
I can’t understand a centre half who doesn’t seem able to read the flight of a ball, the number of times he moves for the ball and finds himself miles away from it when it comes down is shocking.
Their second goal is just a very good delivery, fabianski is rooted because he’s waiting for someone to get a touch and when they don’t it’s too late to move

Re: ⚽ Crystal Palace v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Side of ham- agree entirely re masuaku. He isn't just a lousy left back but also has an impact on the remainder of the team. Not excusing Diop for a poor performance but everyone have to be on their toes to cover for his inevitable failings.

This has, in my view, affected Lanzini many times. He is not a left back but is always racing back to cover for masuaku. Lanzini is consistently called out by some on here but to my way of thinking is one of the most improved players this season and his goal from open play was world class. His penalty was great too.

Before kick off yesterday I called masuaku my 'six pointer', we would win without him and lose with him, he came on in the 46th minute. He and Yarmalenko should be released asap and the beauty is we don't need to replace either of them as we have better youngsters.

Apart from that great game and an excellent 3 points. Up the Hammers!!

Re: ⚽ Crystal Palace v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-3
It was very odd game, how we kind of reversed our poor form. During all those games we lost the only thing we kept doing ok was taking the ball forward, but could not get the final ball and finishing right. Yesterday, the only thing we did right was final ball and finishing. Bringing the ball out of defense was terrible, lots of kicking it up field for a brief respite before they were back on us. Defending was pretty awful. Thankfully their final ball and finishing was also awful.
Good win for us.

Most games it's one goal in it. It makes for exciting watching and tension through to the end. Luckily we win more than we lose.
More wins in the next few games to come too.

Far too exciting.

Re: ⚽ Crystal Palace v West Ham - Official Match Thread
For us to be relegated in last place, the following needs to happen from this point on:

Norwich need to win 8 more games than us, (9 if we beat them in Jan.),
Newcastle need to win 8 more games than us,
Burnley need to win 8 more games than us,
Watford need to win 7 more games than us,
Leeds need to win 6 more games than us, (7 if we beat them in Jan.),
Everton need to win 5 more games than us,
Brentford need to win 5 more games than us,
Southampton need to win 5 more games than us,
Aston Villa need to win 5 more games than us,
Crystal Palace need to win 4 more games than us,
Brighton need to win 4 more games than us,
Leicester need to win 3 more games than us,
Wolves ned to win 3 more games than us,
Manchester United need to win 2 more games than us (3 if we beat them in Jan.),
Tottenham need to win one more game than us.

Drop those numbers by 1 each for relegation in 18th place.

I can see the last 3 - and that will fuck up our European hopes for next year, too - but for all the other ducks to line up not even be possible given the spread of remaining games.

Somebody please correct me, but I think it's only Palace who we've already played twice, so our destiny is still firmly in our own hands.

12 more points, I believe and Sullivan can put his cheque book away as survival will be all but ensured, but not before those points are in the bag.
